ABOUT Bob Rider, CPP
I’m a Gulf War era Navy veteran and retired cop. My wife, Brianna, and I previously owned a retail sport shop – guns & fishing – in a rural Northern California ag community. We live in Meridian with three of our four sons. One in college, one in high school, and one still in elementary school. Boy the first is adulting successfully out west.
I’ve studied photography most of my life, starting in the mid-80’s. I have had the privilege to photograph extraordinary things all over the Pacific and Indian Oceans. I’ve also been tasked with documenting horrific events, crime + crash scenes, and even autopsies. (Ask me, sometime, how I solved a case at an autopsy that I was photographing!) My interest in ‘going pro’ came following a health crisis and resulting kidney transplant in 2012. It was the moment when I realized I wasn’t doing what I had always meant to do. The THING I always thought I’d do.
Fast forward ten years and three studios later. My wife and I own a private, dedicated studio at our home. We specialize in Business to Business (B2B) imaging with an emphasis on people. We do a lot of work with the construction and healthcare industries, government, and non-profits. I also speak on many topics from photography to business, co-host a weekly broadcast on YouTube, and am currently the Vice President of Professional Photographers of Idaho. PPI is Idaho’s state affiliate to PPA.
And, I confess, I’m a total lighting and gear nerd. I enjoy technology and what it’s done for our industry. I study, practice and explore lighting equipment and techniques. I’m fortunate to have friends that do the same! At the risk of sounding clichéd, I love the authentic stories that people bring with them – it’s what makes the headshot specialty my groove. It’s the distinctly human aspect of what we do and it really drives me.
